Wayne Rooney watches from the stands as Manchester United round off miserable home campaign on a high at Old Trafford

Wayne Rooney watched from the stands as Manchester United rounded off a miserable campaign at Old Trafford on a high with a 3-1 victory against Hull City on Tuesday night. The England striker missed the game with a niggling groin injury, but joined in the post-match lap of honour and is expected to be fit for next month's World Cup in Brazil. A brace from debutant James Wilson and one from substitute Robin Van Persie earned the Red Devils the points with only their ninth Premier League win on home soil this term.
