SuperLópez's last stand

Diego López will draw the curtains on his season this evening in Vigo. Barring anything untoward, Iker Casillas will play in Real's remaining two games: the league clash against Espanyol and the Champions League final against Atlético. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed this plan a week ago as he doesn't want Iker to be caught cold in Lisbon because of spending 25 days on the sidelines. As such, Balaídos will be the stage for SuperLópez's last stand of a campaign in which he has already made 35 league appearances, conceding 34 goals and chalking up 26 wins, five draws and four losses. Nevertheless, it has been a tough year for the Galician shotstopper, with the pressure of being chosen as Ancelotti's No1 in 'La Liga' weighing heavily on his shoulders. The goalkeeping debate has never gone away and he has had to deal with it right up to the end, which is why López goes into the Celta game unsure what the future will bring. The 32-year-old's status at the Bernabéu is up in the air because this year's unusual rotation between the sticks is unlikely to be repeated next term. That means one of the two keepers will most probably leave and, considering Iker is the club captain, López looks odds-on to be the one to depart.
