Manchester City's FFP sanction: What it all means and what Manuel Pellegrini has to do now

Sportsmail's Chris Wheeler digs behind the numbers to reveal what the Financial Fair Play sanctions really mean for Manchester City.   Why are City facing UEFA sanctions? Under financial fair play rules, clubs are allowed to lose up to £37.2million over each of the past two financial years and City have only reduced their annual losses to £52m. UEFA were also concerned about some of their figures, notably a £400m sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways. What’s the punishment? They don’t call it a punishment, but a ‘settlement’. That being discussed between City and UEFA’s club financial control board is a fine of £49m, a cut in next season’s Champions League squad from 25 to 21 players and a European salary cap.
